DESCRIPTION

1. The first lens in the industry that has a VR II system that enables the lens to shoot 4 stops slower instead of 3.
2. Offers the broad 18-200mm focal range (11.1x zoom) (equivalent to a 27-300mm lens in 35mm format).
3. This lens is designed exclusively for use with Nikon digital SLR cameras and is not compatible with 35mm [135] or IX240 format film cameras.
4. 2 ED glass and 3 aspherical lens elements minimize chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion, while ensuring high resolution and contrast.
5. Incorporates a compact SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for quiet and fast focusing.
6. M/A mode for rapid switching between Autofocus and Manual focus operation.
7. The Internal Focusing (IF) design enables the use of circular polarizing filters.
8. Employs a 7-blade rounded diaphragm opening that achieves a natural blur for out-of-focus elements.
9. High-grade Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) offers superb colour reproduction while minimizing ghosting and flare.

LEGEND
AF-SAufo Focus Silent - An autofocus lens with a Silent wave, integrated, coreless focus motor (1996). Basically an update to AF-I. Some older bodies can't autofocus with them (N60, N8008)
DXIndicates a lens designed to cover the smaller image circle of the digital camera bodies. May still work on 35mm bodies at some focal lengths.
EDExtra Low Dispersion Glass. Enable the production of lenses that offer superior sharpness and color correction by minimizing chromatic aberration.
GNo apperture ring. Thus needs to be used on camera with Command dial control of apertures. With some older cameras (N90s, for example), can be used in Program or Shutter-priority exposure mode, though.
IFInternal Focusing
VRVibration Reduction. Corrects for camera movement during exposure. VR function only works on cameras with 5 or more autofocus sensors (e.g., not F4, N90s, N60, N70, N8008). Lately, Nikon has been using a VRII designation to indicate some advances to the vibration reduction system.
ASPAspherical Elements. Aspherical lenses virtually eliminate the problem of coma and other types of lens aberration — even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting the distortion in wideangle lenses. In addition, use of aspherical lenses contributes to a lighter and smaller lens design.
DDistance Information. Adds distance information to the data transmitted to the camera via chip. Distinguished by the D or G after the lens designation
M/AM/A mode. AF-S Nikkors feature Nikon’s exclusive M/A mode, that allows switching from autofocus to manual operation with virtually no time lag — even during AF servo operation and regardless of AF mode in use.
SICSuper Integrated Coating, a multi-layer flare reduction coating, usually applied to the more complex zoom lenses.
SWMSilent Wave Motor. AF-S Nikkors feature Nikon’s SWM which converts “traveling waves” into rotational energy to focus the optics. This enables high-speed autofocusing that’s extremely accurate and super quiet.
